by Mark Spencer | Aug 5, 2026 | Fixed Indemnity Medical Insurance, Press Release
IMPORTANT: This is a fixed indemnity policy, NOT health insurance
This fixed indemnity policy may pay you a limited dollar amount if you’re sick or hospitalized. You’re still responsible for paying the cost of your care.
- The payment you get isn’t based on the size of your medical bill.
- There might be a limit on how much this policy will pay each year.
- This policy isn’t a substitute for comprehensive health insurance.
- Since this policy isn’t health insurance, it doesn’t have to include most Federal consumer protections that apply to health insurance.
Looking for comprehensive health insurance?
- Visit HealthCare.gov or call 1-800-318-2596 (TTY: 1-855-889-4325) to find health coverage options.
- To find out if you can get health insurance through your job, or a family member’s job, contact the employer.
Questions about this policy?
- For questions or complaints about this policy, contact your State Department of Insurance. Find their number on the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ website (naic.org) under “Insurance Departments.”
- If you have this policy through your job, or a family member’s job, contact the employer.
Rising healthcare costs can make managing deductibles, copays, and other out-of-pocket expenses a real concern. Fixed indemnity insurance offers a valuable solution: a predefined benefit for covered medical services. This empowers policyholders to confidently address potential financial gaps in their primary health plan. By understanding how this helpful coverage works and the situations where it truly shines, you can make informed decisions to enhance your healthcare strategy.
Understanding the Positive Basics of Fixed Indemnity Insurance
Unlike comprehensive health plans that cover a wide array of medical services, fixed indemnity insurance provides a direct, set benefit amount for each covered incident or service. Think of it as a financial cushion to help with those common out-of-pocket costs that can accumulate from doctor visits, hospital stays, or other medical procedures. Many individuals are finding peace of mind with fixed indemnity insurance from SGIC as a smart supplemental strategy, designed to bridge financial responsibilities that traditional health coverage might not fully address.
Key Features and Benefits You’ll Appreciate
- Predictable Support with Predefined Payouts: For each covered service, like a hospital stay or outpatient treatment, you’ll receive a predetermined payout. This provides clarity and predictability, regardless of the total amount of your medical bills.
- Flexibility and Control with Your Funds: You have the flexibility to use the funds as you see fit. Whether it’s paying down medical bills, managing everyday expenses during recovery, or saving for future healthcare needs, the choice is yours.
- Straightforward and Simple Structure: Because the policy focuses on specific services and set benefit amounts, it’s designed to be easy to understand. You’ll know in advance what the policy pays for each type of covered service, offering transparency and confidence.
Addressing Common Questions About Fixed Indemnity Insurance with Clarity
Exploring whether fixed indemnity insurance aligns with your needs is natural, and some questions often arise. Let’s clarify a few common points:
- “Is Fixed Indemnity Insurance the Same Solid Foundation as Major Medical Coverage?”
No. Fixed indemnity insurance is a valuable supplement, providing a set amount per covered service. It’s important to understand that it isn’t intended to replace comprehensive major medical plans, which offer broader coverage. To gain a clearer picture of fixed indemnity insurance coverage, exploring the available product guidelines is a great next step.
- “Can I Confidently Rely on It to Handle All My Healthcare Needs?”
Fixed indemnity plans are specifically designed to provide targeted financial support for covered services, not to cover all healthcare costs comprehensively. Having additional health coverage in place might still be a beneficial strategy for your overall well-being.
- “Who Finds the Most Value and Benefit from Fixed Indemnity Insurance?”
This type of plan offers significant advantages for those proactively seeking to manage out-of-pocket expenses more effectively. It’s particularly helpful for individuals who already have a primary healthcare policy but desire extra financial security and peace of mind.
Key Considerations for Confidently Choosing Fixed Indemnity Insurance
Selecting a fixed indemnity policy involves thoughtfully evaluating your personal healthcare needs and financial landscape. Here are some important aspects to keep in mind as you explore your options:
- Understanding the Scope of Coverage for Your Peace of Mind:
Take a close look at which specific services and treatments are included in the coverage. While fixed indemnity policies often cover hospital stays, surgery, and doctor visits, the exact coverage details can vary. Before making a decision, learn more about fixed indemnity insurance coverage to understand the specifics of each plan and find the best fit for your needs.
- Comparing Benefit Amounts for Informed Decisions:
Each covered service typically has a predetermined payout amount. Comparing these amounts across different policies will help you understand how well they align with your potential medical expenses and provide the financial support you anticipate.
- Being Aware of Policy Details and Limitations:
Like any insurance policy, fixed indemnity insurance may have exclusions for certain conditions or services. It’s wise to read the policy documents carefully, as limitations can differ between providers and plans.
Tips for Maximizing the Positive Impact of Your Fixed Indemnity Insurance Benefits
While fixed indemnity insurance is designed to help with out-of-pocket costs, implementing these strategies can help you optimize your coverage and ensure you’re receiving the full value from your policy:
- Strategic Bundling with Other Coverage:
Fixed indemnity plans often work best in conjunction with a major medical policy. This powerful combination can help you confidently address financial gaps without relying solely on one type of insurance.
- Familiarizing Yourself with Straightforward Claim Processes:
Understanding the steps involved in filing a claim and when you can expect to receive payments will streamline the process. Familiarizing yourself with timelines and any necessary paperwork will help you access your funds efficiently when you need them.
- Staying Informed and Engaged with Your Policy:
Insurance policies can evolve, and it’s wise to stay informed. Check if your plan offers renewal guarantees or if benefit amounts are subject to change. Staying updated ensures you continue to have the right coverage as your situation evolves.
When to Explore Other Options or Consider Next Steps for Your Healthcare Journey
Fixed indemnity insurance offers valuable benefits, but it might not be the perfect solution for everyone in every situation. If you anticipate frequent doctor visits or require ongoing, extensive treatments, a more comprehensive health plan or additional supplemental coverage might be a more suitable choice. If you’re uncertain whether fixed indemnity insurance aligns perfectly with your financial and medical needs, take advantage of the resources available. Explore the fixed indemnity insurance blog and guides for deeper insights and further information. By exploring various options, you can confidently make a well-rounded decision that truly suits your specific circumstances.
The Essentials for a Confident Healthcare Future
Fixed indemnity insurance offers a positive and effective way to manage out-of-pocket healthcare costs by providing set payouts for covered medical events. This coverage shines when used alongside comprehensive health plans, offering welcome financial relief when medical bills arise. By understanding common questions, carefully reviewing the benefits, and thoughtfully assessing your unique healthcare needs, you can confidently choose a policy that helps protect both your health and your financial well-being.
The information presented above is a brief description of the important features of this insurance plan. It is not an insurance contract. Coverage is subject to meeting eligibility requirements. A.M. Best has assigned a Financial Strength Rating (FSR) of B++ (Good) and a Long-Term Issuer Credit Rating (Long-Term ICR) of “bbb” to Southern Guaranty Insurance Company (headquartered in Clearwater, FL) (Southern Guaranty), a newly formed U.S. insurer that is part of Premier Servicing, LLC. (Premier). The outlook assigned to these Credit Ratings (ratings) is stable.
The ratings reflect Southern Guaranty’s balance sheet strength, which A.M. Best categorizes as very strong, as well as its adequate operating performance, limited business profile and marginal enterprise risk management.
Based on the business plan shared with A.M. Best, Southern Guaranty’s risk-adjusted capital, as measured by the Best’s Capital Adequacy Ratio (BCAR), is projected to be at the strongest level over the near term. The balance sheet assessment takes into consideration the company’s initial capitalization, projected conservative asset allocation and reinsurance agreements with highly rated carriers. While the level of risk-adjusted capitalization is projected to moderate over the medium term as the company achieves its growth plans, A.M. Best expects the ultimate owner to provide additional capital support if needed.
Furthermore, the ratings take into account the business plans of the company, its experienced management team, as well as the near-term earnings prospects to be derived from the existing partner relationships. Southern Guaranty’s overall operating performance is considered adequate, given the expected results over the near term. Additionally, Southern Guaranty’s business profile is viewed as limited due to the start-up nature of operations, lack of product diversification and risk exposure during the first few years of operations. In addition, ancillary health products the company plans to grow have become very competitive with many carriers entering or expanding into that segment.
The company’s ability to execute its business plan will be a key rating factor going forward. As such, A.M. Best will closely monitor Southern Guaranty to ensure that targeted results are attained.
This press release relates to Credit Ratings that have been published on A.M. Best’s website. For all rating information relating to the release and pertinent disclosures, including details of the office responsible for issuing each of the individual ratings referenced in this release, please see A.M. Clearwater, FL, December, 2022 — Southern Guaranty Insurance Company (SGIC) recently created and sponsored a hurricane relief drive to aid those affected by Hurricane Ian along the south coast of Florida. Led by the COO, Bryan Schmidt and the VP of Compliance, Shane Crawford, as well as the entire executive team and the company’s commitment to ethics, compassion, and community. SGIC employees joined together to deliver over $10,000 worth of bottled water to those local communities most devastated by the storm. In addition, SGIC rallied together both employees and other local businesses to provide additional donations of food, clothing, and other essential items to those families that suffered the greatest loss.
Over the course of two days following Ian, 30 volunteers from SGIC worked tirelessly to pack over 15 pallets of water and countless other donations for delivery to the city of Fort Myers. The donations were first welcomed by the Mount Herman Baptist Church, which served as a centralized location for those seeking shelter following the Hurricane. The same day, the SGIC volunteer team made donations to the East United Way Pantry, where they were greeted by more storm displaced families and children waiting for water, food, and clothing.
“The pastor from Mount Herman had been praying for the last hour for someone, anyone, to show up with water; so we were thrilled to be able to offer the essentials that the community needed,” says Shane Crawford. “You feel a true sense of community when you are able to look someone in the eyes and tell them that you are there to help them in their time of need. We view local outreach and donations like we saw today as essential to our corporate responsibility to the communities in Florida and beyond.”
This hurricane relief drive exemplifies SGIC’s commitment to community outreach. SGIC hopes to galvanize more local businesses to provide local assistance that personally touches those who are affected by disasters such as Hurricane Ian. Community outreach is a cornerstone of SGIC’s commitment to provide a positive impact in the communities that it serves and where it strives to make a difference.
